E Lau Hoe 2018 Outrigger Race

I was lucky enough to score a ride on the escort boat supporting the Maui Jim Wahine 6 man team. The race started in Kailua and finished at Sand Island. It was amazing watching these women pull their canoe through the water, working together, navigating the best route and figuring out problems on the fly. The ladies came in third, they were not super happy with the results but that’s elite athletes for you, nothing but first place is good enough. Regardless I was inspired by their dedication, athleticism, knowledge and strength. A hui hou.

Britt, Dustin & Dusty

I met Britt through a mutual friends referral, she wanted to document her new son’s life before he underwent surgery for a cleft palette. We choose their little beach cottage as the most comfortable spot to photograph Dusty. It was a really emotional shoot. The love and strength this family has found through it’s challenges is inspiring to say the least. The evening ended with Britt rocking Dusty to sleep in the setting sun.
